At first my son didn't care for this game and when he really understood it, he rates it as one of his favorite toy (among 100 or so other favorites lol). I did the signing up for him and the rest he did himself. He loves chatting with fellow gamers and scoring in the battles. There is a hand held game (with pretty good graphics) that you download battles and can play anywhere. Overall, this game is fun and it teaches using strategy when battling the monsters.
I purchased a Nanoscope for my son for Christmas 2009. He already had an online account so this was the next step. Christmas morning and he's happy with his new toy. Made me sync it immediately out of the box. It worked fine for about 2 hours and the we get an "oops error" message. Straight to the customer help site and follow the instructions to correct the error . No luck ! I tried it several times. My son is almost in tears. I messaged Smith and Tinker and they replied the next day apologizing and sent me a replacement shipping included. They wanted the defective back and included a package with the shipping already paid for me to send it in. The replacement works just great and my son is happy. They even gave me extra nanocash and 2 storm spinners.Even though i was put put on Christmas day their dedication to customer service has redeemed this company in my eyes. One thing to note though this unit eats regular batteries. Use Lithium instead.
This is fun and cool i loved it right away i wish they could have made it to hold all your nanovors. but its still cool.
I bought this for my 10 year old son for Christmas, and after playing it for 2 hours, it would not turn on anymore. We tried everything the online help suggested, new batteries, reset etc but it still would not turn on. I left a message for their customer care department and i received a call back the same day. The are sending out a new nanoscope no questions asked. I thought i was going to have to return it to amazon, but was pleasantly surprised. My son loved this and is anxiously waiting for the new one to arrive. Its nice to see a company stand behind their products!!
When I first saw the Nanoscope at Target, I thought "Another virtual pet game?". Oh no, not quite. This is what Pokemon should of been, in its own hand held gaming device. Nanovor is a new kind of battling pet game. You use Nanocash to purchase online booster packs, several different kinds of which you can choose from in fact to build your "swarm". I'm not going to get too detailed here, but you can evolve them and collect rare Nanovor. Basically you battle with them in an online game. You install it it the included DVD to your PC, make a free online account, and go from there. The Nanoscope is for offline play and includes several mini-games and a tutorial. You can download your swarm to your Nanoscope for offline battles as well. It can connect via USB (cord included) to your PC so you may transfer your Nanovor back and forth, and including the ever important "Jolts" (which are earned via mini-games) to maximizing stats on your Nanovor. It's an incredibly detailed system for such a small screen, an LCD with 1000's of animations. You will need Nanocash. There is a code card that comes with the 'Scope, you redeem it online. There is also limited edition packs that include figures and can be purchased in stores that include Nanocash; there are also cash cards but you don't have to buy them in stores. How much you will need depends on your playtime and willingness to put in the money and effort to build swarms. Nanovor is a very addictive game. I know people in their 40's playing it, so it's not just for kids. Anyone who has ever gotten into the MTG card game or anything similar should find it to their liking. There is a lot more strategy than just pressing a few buttons. Do yourself a favor and look it up. It may not be for MAC users, but giving Smith & Tinker the benefit of the doubt for a very good game gives them an overhead, as they may release it in the future. Updates are made pretty often to the software. The only complaint I have is it took so long to install, but well worth the wait. Any customer service or questions I have had have been answered promptly. Battery life and the durability of it is pretty dang good for such a great system. It comes with it's own case, which I am quite impressed with. I find myself playing it more often than my DS, though I do wish the screen was a little bigger. Give it a whirl, you or your kids won't be disappointed!!
With so many card trading games available to the world, many are wondering what makes nanovor stand out from the other games in its genre.
It is true that there are some similarities between nanovor and its competition. In nanovor, players build teams of nanovors that are called swarms. Then with these swarms they go into battle against other player’s swarms and watch the battle play out. The player has control of every move the nanovor takes, so the outcome of the battle is based on the strategies of the player. Strategy is the core of Nanovor.
Nanovor has managed to set itself apart from other traditional card collecting games by adding game play ideas from MMOs (massively multiplayer online game). The player’s cards for example, evolve over time depending on the different badges earned for different accomplishments.
In order to evolve the nanovors, the player has to go through a process that is similar to Mastermind. It is not the easies thing in the world to do because you have to get the different color ‘energy modules’ in the right order. What is the point of being able to evolve? Well this allows the nanovor game to not be completely governed by who has the rarest cards, though card scarcity will still exist.
Yet another way that nanovor is transforming the genre is keeping the game completely online by making sure that trades can only be done online. In the marketplace setting the players are able to evaluate the fairness of their trades.
The biggest way that nanovor has surprised the world is by adding a offline component called the Nanoscope. The creators of nanovor have been able to bring the digital cards to the game through the nanoscope. The nanoscope is a hand held device with a flash memory and a LCD screen that links to both the players’ computer and other nanoscopes.
The nanoscope actually makes the battle even more interesting because when players are battling each other then can see their nanovors jump from screen to screen to attack each other. There is even a flash memory slot for players to buy special training carts that will help them to further evolve their nanovors.
The game itself sits on a solid foundation that is aimed for young teenage boys through the slightly gross and gooey death animations. It is certainly worth looking at. It could even change the way the world looks at and playing collectible card games in the future.
