Not only is nanovor an awesome game to play, but there is also a story behind it. On the nanovor website there are webisodes that are about 2 minutes in length to continue the nanovor story. It is hard to pack a lot of information into a 2-minute video but they are humorous and even hint at certain strategies to help you in your battles. Here is a lay out of what has happened thus far in the nanovor wedisodes. There are a total of 11 as of yet.

Nanovor Episode one – They’re alive! This episode starts out with a fast talking Lucas Nelson explaining how he discovered the nanovors while searching for dust mites. He builds a machine out of cell phone parts to see these nanovors in the nanoscopic level.

Nanovor Episode two – Tell no one! In this episode Lucas Nelson decides to tell his favorite teacher Mr. Sapphire (Doc Zap) about his recent discovery of the nanovors. This is personally my favorite episode because of the humor. Mr. Sapphire is sarcastic and funny. Though he doesn’t want Lucas Nelson to tell anyone about the nanovors until they know more.

Nanovor Episode three – Live to fight. This is the episode where we find out how hard the nanovors really do fight, and how the regenerate after each battle, and how computer chips are made of nanovor.

Nanovor Episode four – What’s that? Lucas Nelson tells his best friend drew about the nanovors.

Nanovor Episode five – Drewstruction! Doc Zap and Lucas upgrade the Nanoscope - now it can control the Nanovor in battle! Drew and Lucas battle, Drew wins, and just at that moment Doc Zap walks in and realizes that she knows about the nanovor world.

Nanovor Episode six – Lab rats unite! Doc Zap presents Lucas and Drew with the new and improved nanoscopes.

Nanovor Episode seven – Fight to live. Lucas and Drew bring Monty, a video game champion, into the group to help them devise rules for battle. Also, they realize that in order to make big attacks, you must save up your energy in battle.

Nanovor Episode eight – EMphasize! Mr. Sapphire reveals his latest discovery: with the right triggers, Nanovor can evolve into even more powerful forms.

Nanovor Episode nine – Playtime. While Lucas is in a class, a creature from the nanovor tried to contact him! Could the inhabitants of the nanosphere be aware of him?

Nanovor Episode ten – Battle Brigade. The Lab Rats hold a tournament in Mr. Sapphire's science classroom, but a nosy Principal Sturn threatens to ruin the day. Monty reveals some new strategies and helps the other lab rats in their battles.

Nanovor Episode eleven – What’s a modem? Lucas encounters a new kind of Nanovor who wants to communicate with him and tries everything he can to hear and reply to the new nanovor named Taslos, who wants to play...

Be sure to keep on eye on these videos! A new one is added every Friday. Happy battling!

Reviews

Our son saved up for this for quite a while (he paid thirty, despite it being eleven and change as of this writing!) and was thrilled to finally receive it. He loaded it up with his nanovor from the online battle game (which he had already been playing for a while) and invited a friend over to battle nanoscope to nanoscope. After several attempts, my son's screen went blank and appeared to be off despite toggling the on/off switch. His friend said that the same thing happened with his "first" nanoscope (he was on his second). We tried new batteries, the "reset" button, as well as a few other tips we had read about on the internet. After a few days of trying various fixes, and at the prodding of the friend's mother who experienced the same thing, I contacted Smith & Tinker (support at nanovor dot com) and to their credit, they promptly sent us a replacement which still works fine after two months and we did not need to return the old one to them. It seems like the company is still trying to work out a few kinks in the system, so if you happen to get a "good" one, it will be a lot of fun for you (or your child). However, you should be prepared for the very real possibility that the one you receive may be a "dud" and you just might have a pretty disappointed child on your hands!

At first my son didn't care for this game and when he really understood it, he rates it as one of his favorite toy (among 100 or so other favorites lol). I did the signing up for him and the rest he did himself. He loves chatting with fellow gamers and scoring in the battles. There is a hand held game (with pretty good graphics) that you download battles and can play anywhere. Overall, this game is fun and it teaches using strategy when battling the monsters.

I purchased a Nanoscope for my son for Christmas 2009. He already had an online account so this was the next step. Christmas morning and he's happy with his new toy. Made me sync it immediately out of the box. It worked fine for about 2 hours and the we get an "oops error" message. Straight to the customer help site and follow the instructions to correct the error . No luck ! I tried it several times. My son is almost in tears. I messaged Smith and Tinker and they replied the next day apologizing and sent me a replacement shipping included. They wanted the defective back and included a package with the shipping already paid for me to send it in. The replacement works just great and my son is happy. They even gave me extra nanocash and 2 storm spinners.Even though i was put put on Christmas day their dedication to customer service has redeemed this company in my eyes. One thing to note though this unit eats regular batteries. Use Lithium instead.

This is fun and cool i loved it right away i wish they could have made it to hold all your nanovors. but its still cool.

I bought this for my 10 year old son for Christmas, and after playing it for 2 hours, it would not turn on anymore. We tried everything the online help suggested, new batteries, reset etc but it still would not turn on. I left a message for their customer care department and i received a call back the same day. The are sending out a new nanoscope no questions asked. I thought i was going to have to return it to amazon, but was pleasantly surprised. My son loved this and is anxiously waiting for the new one to arrive. Its nice to see a company stand behind their products!!

With so many card trading games available to the world, many are wondering what makes nanovor stand out from the other games in its genre.

It is true that there are some similarities between nanovor and its competition. In nanovor, players build teams of nanovors that are called swarms. Then with these swarms they go into battle against other player’s swarms and watch the battle play out. The player has control of every move the nanovor takes, so the outcome of the battle is based on the strategies of the player. Strategy is the core of Nanovor.

Nanovor has managed to set itself apart from other traditional card collecting games by adding game play ideas from MMOs (massively multiplayer online game). The player’s cards for example, evolve over time depending on the different badges earned for different accomplishments.

In order to evolve the nanovors, the player has to go through a process that is similar to Mastermind. It is not the easies thing in the world to do because you have to get the different color ‘energy modules’ in the right order. What is the point of being able to evolve? Well this allows the nanovor game to not be completely governed by who has the rarest cards, though card scarcity will still exist.

Yet another way that nanovor is transforming the genre is keeping the game completely online by making sure that trades can only be done online. In the marketplace setting the players are able to evaluate the fairness of their trades.

The biggest way that nanovor has surprised the world is by adding a offline component called the Nanoscope. The creators of nanovor have been able to bring the digital cards to the game through the nanoscope. The nanoscope is a hand held device with a flash memory and a LCD screen that links to both the players’ computer and other nanoscopes.

The nanoscope actually makes the battle even more interesting because when players are battling each other then can see their nanovors jump from screen to screen to attack each other. There is even a flash memory slot for players to buy special training carts that will help them to further evolve their nanovors.

The game itself sits on a solid foundation that is aimed for young teenage boys through the slightly gross and gooey death animations. It is certainly worth looking at. It could even change the way the world looks at and playing collectible card games in the future.
